Performance
- What is it?
- This program is designed to expose students to real-life band rehearsal and etiquette. Students in this program will be in a themed show every season and casted to specific songs and song parts in order to prepare for a live, public performance at the end of the season with their group. The goal of this group is to teach the students how to play their specific parts in private lessons while developing further knowledge of their instrument, and at rehearsals play songs together as a band from start to finish independently. This group is a commitment and everyone’s role is equally important to the success of the group. Expectations for this group can be found in the Performance Program Expectations document.
- Will all students have an equal amount of songs?
- Not every student will have an equal amount of songs. Fair casting does not mean equal casting. Students who practice at home, show up prepared, and are ready for more of a challenge will take on more songs as the season progresses. Students who do not show up prepared, have attendance issues, behavioral issues, or lack skill level will likely have less songs than the rest of the group.
- What if a student plays more than one instrument?
- Some students play multiple instruments and take lessons for each instrument. These students, should they be ready for it, will be casted on songs for each instrument or at times both on one song (Example: Guitar & Vocals).
- Some students play multiple instruments, but only take lessons for one. If the student proves they can play multiple instruments proficiently, they have an opportunity to be casted on songs with both instruments with their lesson instrument being the main focus.
- How many songs are casted and released to the group at one time?
Songs are released in phases and can contain anywhere from 2-6 songs at once every few weeks until a few weeks before the end of season performance. Not every student will play on every song. We do block casting, which means two rehearsal rooms will be utilized, one for each group, for the best use of time. The groups may change in each released song phase throughout the duration of the season in order to mix up the pairings to include mixed skill levels and full band exposure.
